Today is my day off. I had a nice sleep in then I had my dentist appointment at 11:30 AM so I left the house at about 10:30 AM to catch the bus into town. I was 15 minutes early to my dentist appointment so I recharged my metro card before going to the dentist and waited in the waiting room for 15 minutes. I was surprised when I was told by my dentist I did not need to get any fillings and I was even more surprised when my private health insurance covered it all so I didn’t have to pay anything.
After dentist, I did a bit of shopping as I couldn’t eat or drink anything for 20 minutes after my dentist appointment as they had put fluoride on my teeth to keep it strong. I did a bit of shopping in the meantime so I went to Lush and bought a toner water that I love from there then I went to Myer Centre where I found out that Top Shop had closed. It was so sad as I love Top Shop. It’s one of my favourite clothing stores but it’s in administration at the moment in Australia so they have closed down a few stores including Adelaide’s. So sad. I was also hunting for a dress for a French picnic that I’m going to on Friday and also a new dress for Chinese New Year.
I spent my money on my lunch where I went to Two-Bits Villain Soda Bar & Diner, which is located on the balcony level of the Adelaide Arcade. It was hard to find as I hadn’t been there before. I didn’t realise the Adelaide Arcade had a balcony level until today. I’ve lived in Adelaide for 26 years and I’ve never realised that the Adelaide Arcade had a balcony level. It was really amazing. When you come into Adelaide Arcade from Rundle Mall, take the first set of stairs on the left that says balcony level access and once you reach the balcony level you turn right and it’s right at the end towards the Rundle Mall end. You can’t miss it as it has a nice big window that looks into the cafe but it was covered by a Christmas tree as they still had their Christmas decorations up.
I was a bit disappointed with Two-Bits as it was really busy when I got there so all the tables were full so I had to wait for a while. No waiter came to greet me at the door or to say you may have to wait awhile. I had to get one of the waiter’s attention then a waiter was free. The waiter asked if I didn’t mind sharing a table. I didn’t mind sharing a table as I was by myself and in Asia it is quite common so I didn’t mind as I had experience with sharing tables so I shared a table with two ladies.
I hadn’t really looked into it but I’ve seen it on Yelp before. It’s an American inspired cafe. The menu was limited as it was mostly burgers, which I don’t really like so I had the red hot dawg with tomato sauce and cheese. The dawg was made out of soy so it was softer than normal and it had an usual texture. I think that was suppose to be a vegetarian/vegan dish. I wasn’t sure if I liked it or not but I finished it. The star next to it on the menu probably means it’s vegan/vegetarian but it was not very clear. It was interesting though.
I also had a cherry soda to go with it. It was a bit awkward sitting by myself once the two ladies had left as I felt there were people staring at me but I just looked at my phone for most of the time so I didn’t think about it too much. I rate my overall experience at Two-Bits 3 out of 5 stars. It was nothing special.
After lunch, I had seen there was an Adelaide Arcade museum that I had not noticed before so I had a look around. It was really interesting as it was about the history of Adelaide. Then I had tea and cake at Koko Black to get rid of the taste of the hot dog. I had the chocolate and fudge tea and the apple and tonka gateau, which I had before but in Melbourne. The one in Melbourne was better as the cremeux on the outside was darker and redder. I really enjoyed my chocolate and fudge tea. You could smell the chocolate and fudge that was mixed together. It actually reminded me of a dried orange coated in chocolate. It was very strong. I loved it and it’s probably one of my favourite teas. My overall experience at Koko Black was so much better. I rate it 3.5 out of 5 stars.
I then did more shopping after lunch. I went to Games World that was in the arcade where I bought my friend’s daughter a board game as I am going to her 10th birthday party on Sunday and I then went to Kikki.K. I bought a really nice coffee table book called The Life Plan that talks about how to plan your life and then I bought a Monogram Notepad with my letter N on it as I had ran out and I really loved writing notes to people with it. Lastly, I bought a get offline phone box, which I didn’t need but I found it useful, where you can store your phone to get offline and be in the present moment. It also has an opening so you can charge your phone whilst stored. It will be really handy as I now have a place to store my phone on my bedside table. I won’t be tempted to look at my phone now before going to bed.
I really love going to that Kikki.K store as most of the staff there are friendly and there is this one staff that seems to recognise me every-time I go there so he treats me like a friend and I feel special when I go there. That’s excellent customer service for you! Well, that was my day off. I went home afterwards and now relaxing. I love having Tuesdays off as it makes me look forward to Mondays.
What do you do on your days off?
Love Nat xx
